Please observe the following safety instructions:
Wire Rope by the Metre is used in a wide range of lifting and construction applications. To ensure safe handling and use, the following instructions must be observed:
1. Intended Application and Suitability
- Wire rope by the metre must only be used for its intended purpose (e.g. lifting, pulling or securing loads).
- Observe the specific technical characteristics of the wire rope (e.g. material, diameter, construction and minimum breaking load).
- Use only with suitable accessories and termination components (e.g. wire rope clips, ferrules) designed for the respective wire rope.
2. Before Use
- Visual inspection: Inspect the wire rope before each use for signs of damage (e.g. broken wires, crushing, rust, corrosion or deformation). Damaged wire ropes must not be used.
- Check load capacity: Ensure that the strength of the wire rope is appropriate for the intended load. Observe the required safety factors in accordance with applicable regulations and standards.
- Correct length: Ensure that the wire rope has the required length for the intended application and is not shortened while under tension.
3. Use
- Correct installation: Use wire ropes only with appropriate accessories (e.g. wire rope clips, sheaves or pulleys). These components must be correctly installed and secured.
- Direction of loading: Always load wire ropes in the intended direction and do not twist, kink or run them over sharp edges.
- No overloading: The specified minimum breaking load must not be exceeded.
- Regular inspection during use: During operation, monitor the wire rope for signs of overloading or damage.
4. Special Conditions
- Environmental influences: Wire ropes may be damaged by aggressive chemicals, elevated temperatures or excessive wear.
- Temperature suitability: Ensure that the wire rope is suitable for the ambient temperatures of the intended application.
5. Maintenance and Care
- Clean wire ropes regularly and inspect them for wear. If applicable, sheaves, pulleys and other rope guidance components should also be inspected.
- If the wire rope is damaged (e.g. broken wires), remove it from service immediately and replace it.
- Lubricate moving components (e.g. sheaves and pulley systems) where applicable to minimise wear.
6. Storage
- Store wire ropes in a dry, clean and corrosion-protected environment.
- Store wire ropes on reels or drums to prevent kinking and deformation.
- Avoid contact with chemicals that could adversely affect the material properties of the wire rope.
7. Additional Information
- Wire rope by the metre is a safety-critical product. Applicable regulations and standards (e.g. DIN EN 12385) must always be observed.
- In the event of improper installation or uncertainty regarding the application, consult the manufacturer or a wire rope specialist.
- Wire ropes must never be repaired. Damaged wire ropes must always be replaced in their entirety.
