Shackles.
Shackles are used as a connecting element between lifting/tensioning equipment and the load application point. They are often used as end connections in sling ropes, sling chains, round slings and lifting slings. They are used in numerous areas of application, such as lifting technology, shipping, but also in conveyor technology and mechanical engineering. Shackles are usually cast or forged from steel or stainless steel. At Dolezych, you can choose from a wide range of standard shackles, high-strength shackles, straight shackles and curved shackles. You can find our complete selection of shackles in our bestseller catalog.

What is a shackle?
A distinction is made between
- Shackles with eyebolts, which are mostly used for non-permanent purposes
- Shackles with a nut and cotter pin, which are used more for long-term applications where the pin could rotate under load
- Straight shackles (also known as chain shackles), which are mostly used for single shackle systems
- Curved shackles (also known as anchor shackles) for systems with multiple shackles. Their curved shape provides greater freedom of movement, making the connection more flexible
Shackle shapes
- Shackle shape A (curved shackle) with eyebolt
- Shackle shape B (straight shackle) with eyebolt
- Shackle shape C (curved shackle) with nut and split pin
- Shackle shape D (straight shackle) with nut and split pin
What shackles are available at the Dolezych-Store?
You can buy different types of shackles from Dolezych, depending on the location and type of application for which you need the shackle.
Standard shackles
Standard shackles made of high-strength heat-treated steel are suitable for general lifting purposes. They are hot-dip galvanized with an orange pin. The following high-strength shackles are available from Dolezych:
- High-strength shackle, galvanized, shape A (curved) with eyebolt
- High-strength shackle, galvanized, shape B (straight) with eyebolt
- Shackle, high-strength, galvanized, shape C (curved) with nut and split pin
- Shackle, high-strength, galvanized, shape D (straight) with nut and split pin
Green Pin® shackles / heavy-duty shackles
Green Pin® shackles are characterized by their dimensional accuracy and are therefore preferred for applications with high load capacities. They can also be used at low temperatures (polar version even down to -40°).
Special shackle Green Pin® Sling "Wide body" shackle with increased radius in the shackle bow curved with safety bolt, nut and split pin
Compared to the Green Pin® heavy duty shackles, sling shackles have a larger curved radius to improve resistance to wear and to allow you to use a lighter rope to lift the same heavy load.
Special shackle Green Pin® Sling "Wide body" shackle with increased radius in the shackle bow curved with safety bolt, nut and split pin
Stainless steel shackles
Stainless steel shackles are particularly suitable for use in corrosive environments. Thanks to the high-quality material, the shackles can be used in conjunction with stainless steel cables or other lifting gear, even in adverse conditions.
Use shackles correctly: what you need to bear in mind
When using shackles, you should check the shackles for the following properties, for example, before each use:
- Shackle marking: Markings on the shackle must be legible
- Shackles and bolts must not have any cracks or similar material defects
- Shackle and pin must be of the same brand and type
- Shackle and pin must be the correct size
- Brackets and bolts must not be bent or badly worn
- Threads and bolts must not be bent or damaged
- No modifications must have been made to the shackle (e.g. by welding or heating)
- The bolt, nut and split pin must not be able to change position due to vibration
- A shackle with nut and split pin must never be used without a split pin
- If one of the above points occurs, for example, the shackle must be replaced with a functional shackle.
Professional installation of shackles: what you need to know
And this is how it works:
- Pay attention to the length of the shackle pin so that the pin can be screwed all the way into the shackle eye.
- Screw the shackle pin correctly into the shackle eye.
- Depending on the application, select the correct shackle in terms of its load capacity.
Dolezych offers you a large selection of straight and curved shackles. Depending on the application, we offer shackles with a working load limit (WLL) of 0.1 to 1500 t so that you can choose the right shackle for every application. We also supply shackles based on the DIN EN 13889 and DIN 82101 standards. If you can't find the right shackle in our store, take a look at our bestseller catalog or ask our experts for advice.
