Self-Locking Terminals

The Dolezych stainless steel cable program: configure architectural cables or buy direct solutions for on-site installation

Dolezych offers stainless steel cables and components for various applications. The systems are available ready-to-install, fixed length, adjustable length or for on-site installation.

Our range of stainless steel architectural cables

1) Pre-assembled guy ropes

  • The prefabricated guy ropes in the ClassicLine, SlimeLine S and SlimLine XS product lines are architecture-ropes individually adapted to your project
  • For high breaking loads or high resistance to aggressive environmental media, we recommend the ClassicLine
  • We recommend the SlimLine S and SlimLine XS for interior design, aesthetic aspects and for components with small dimensions

2) Guy ropes for self-assembly on site

  • We recommend the SelfLockingTerminals for tensioning ropes for self-assembly on site

Measuring points for architecture-ropes

  • For visual reasons, we recommend that you select the production length of your architecture-ropes so that the transition from the press shank to the thread remains in the post on the external thread
  • For through posts, please adapt the hole to any existing wrench flats
  • With the internal thread terminal, you should ensure that some clamping path remains inside the post

Our product solutions in the field of stainless steel architecture-ropes

Dolezych architecture-ropes are perfect for stainless steel cable railings, for example. At least one side of these length-adjustable tensioning cable combinations is designed with a terminal tensioner. This allows you to easily pre-tension and, if necessary, re-tension the cables. Small measurement tolerances can be easily compensated for. There is a minimum tolerance for versions with a threaded terminal; for fork or eye terminals, you must plan for a precise fit.

We use these rope types as standard:

  • Rope ø 1-3 mm DoVier 119
  • Rope ø 4-6 mm DoVier 707
  • Rope ø 7-16 mm DoVier 719
  • Rope ø >18 mm DoVier 736

To clearly determine the length, please note the “measuring points” for assembled ropes. The article numbers for ordering and dimensions of the components used can be found in our bestseller catalog (Link).

The ClassicLine: ready-made and ready-to-install architecture-ropes

The areas of application for our ready-to-install ClassicLine are objects with fixed installation dimensions, e.g. in mechanical engineering as control or traction ropes or as stair ropes or railing ropes.

Threaded terminals for the ClassicLine

Threaded terminals are an ideal end connection for tensioning between posts (e.g. for stair railings). The hole in the post must be dimensioned so that the thickest part of the threaded terminal - the bulge of the wrench flat - can be passed through the hole.

ClassicLine eye terminals and fork terminals

  • Eye and fork terminals are preferred connection elements for connecting to existing fork connections or lugs on site
  • Coupling to the component using a simple bolt connection is possible without the need for a lot of tools
  • These bolt connections allow variable angles

Lens & female thread terminals made of stainless steel

Stainless steel lens head terminals: If the angles are right-angled, lens head terminals form an attractive finish. You should note that, due to their design, they can almost only be used on one side. A threaded terminal is usually mounted on the opposite side, which is pushed through the posts and then tightened with a nut.

Internally threaded terminals made of stainless steel: Internally threaded terminals are another variant for right-angled post connections. With this solution, two cables can be elegantly connected to each other via a threaded rod that runs through the post. Screws are used to mount them to the end posts, which can be designed as cylinder head, pan-head or countersunk head screws, depending on preference.

So that the pretension is correct: Terminal tensioners

The use of terminal tensioners is an excellent way of creating diagonal bracing. The most intelligent solution is the direct transition from the rope to the threaded terminal, which is screwed directly into the shroud tensioner sleeve. This eliminates the need for thimbles and press clamps, which would be necessary when using terminal tensioners with forks on both sides. If the rope is attached to a lug (eyelet), you should choose the terminal tensioner with a fork end. If there is a fork connection on the fastening structure, use the terminal tensioner with eye end. The eye end can also be bolted flat on the structure.

Aesthetics in the foreground: SilmLine S and SlimLine XS ready for installation

With pre-assembled architecture-ropes with terminals, you must take into account a reduction in the system breaking load due to the low wall thickness of the components. The SlimLine S and SlimLine XS have a breaking load class of 50%, i.e. the minimum breaking load of the assembled rope system is 50% of the minimum breaking load of the rope used.

Areas of application:

  • Due to the reduced minimum breaking strength, aesthetic aspects are the main focus when using SlimLine S and SlimLine XS
  • If the focus is on functional aspects, i.e. high breaking forces, it is better to use ClassicLine

Terminals for SlimLine S and SlimLine XS: deliberately kept small

The dimensions of these eye and fork terminals have also been deliberately kept small. Different angles can also be realized with this design thanks to the pin as an articulated bearing point. The countersunk head terminals also have small external dimensions. However, only the right-angled connection to the mullion is possible here.

For aesthetic reasons, threaded terminals with smaller dimensions are often used indoors in particular. The ratio of rope diameter to thread thickness is reduced here to values of 1:1.3 for SlimLine S and 1:1.25 for SlimLine XS. When using these thin terminals, the breaking load values are around 50% of the rope breaking load.

Self-locking terminals for “on-site assembly”

The self-locking terminals are an innovative product range that allows you to assemble on site - without special tools. They can even be connected to steel bars. Self-Locking terminals are available in the common terminal variants of threaded, fork and eye terminals.

Suitable for spiral rope construction:

  • DoVier 119
  • DoVier 707
  • DoVier 719

With a little practice, you can install the self-locking terminals in less than 10 seconds.

Screw terminals for on-site installation

The matching screw terminals are also ideally suited for on-site assembly, especially where the system breaking load is not a decisive factor, as the breaking load to be achieved does not come close to that of the press terminals.

Suitable for spiral rope construction:

  • DoVier 707
  • DoVier 719

Screwable components for architecture-ropes

Where short adjustment paths are sufficient, screwable components are particularly suitable. If the rope is equipped with an external threaded terminal, the internally threaded components with ball head or pan head can be used if there is a through-hole in the structure. If you want to attach a lug, eye ends or forks with an internal thread are available. When mounting, please note that you must turn by half a thread when tightening.

You can buy the following screwable components from Dolezych:

  • Lens head with internal thread
  • Eye end with external thread
  • Eye end with internal thread
  • Fork with external thread
  • Fork with internal thread
  • Molded connection for lens head with internal thread
