From hemp to UHMW-PE: fiber rope material

Material in the application:

  • Hemp rope: Is far surpassed in breaking load and durability by synthetic fiber and therefore only plays a significant role in selected industries, such as artistry, agriculture, home or garden
  • Polypropylene (PP) rope: Is mainly used where it makes sense to use a buoyant line. For example, as a towline or man-overboard lifeline, but also for simple applications such as fender lines
  • Polyamide (PA) rope: Hardens quickly under the influence of UV, so it is useful for use in net production, for example, if it is desired that the net hardens in a certain shape
  • Polyester (PES) rope: Depending on the manufacturing process, used as a halyard, mooring line, sheet, reefing line, downhaul and for many other purposes, including non-nautical ones
  • Rope UHMW-PE high-tech fibers: Used wherever higher breaking forces are required at lower weights, for nautical and other applications. These fibers are also buoyant

Fiber rope-slings from Dolezych

A fiber rope-sling consists of one or more identical fiber ropes whose ends are fixed in spliced eyes with or without thimbles and with fittings. In the case of an endless sling, the fiber ropes are connected to themselves by a splice. The ropes are available in natural or man-made fibers.

Temperature range:

Polyester and polyamide: -40°C to +100°C

Hemp and polypropylene: -40°C to +80°C

Your advantages:

  • Good grip
  • Good flexibility
  • Low weight
  • Gentle on the load

Types:

  • Single strand with spliced eyes
  • Endless strand connected by short splice
  • Endless strand with long splice without thickening

Ropes with broken strands, yarn breaks in large numbers (more than 10% of the total number of yarns), deformation due to heat, splice loosening or damage caused by aggressive substances must be discarded.

For fiber rope-slings made of hemp, the versions with two loops and endless short splice are made from 4-shaft ropes. For all other versions and materials, the load capacities for 3-shaft ropes apply. For the load-bearing capacities of other fiber materials, e.g. Kevlar, please contact us. For further information, see DGUV Rule 109-006 "Use of fiber rope-slings" of the BG.

Standards for fiber rope-slings

  • DIN EN 1492-4: "Fiber rope-slings for general use made of natural and synthetic fiber ropes"
  • EN 1261: Fiber ropes for general use – Hemp
  • EN 696: Fiber ropes for general use – Polyamide
  • EN 697: Fiber ropes for general use – Polyester
