Chain connecting links are used to connect chains and other lifting accessories. To ensure safe handling, the following instructions must be observed:

1. Intended Application and Suitability

  • Chain connecting links are designed only for static and approved connection applications. They must not be used for safety-critical purposes or lifting operations unless expressly approved for such use.
  • Observe the Working Load Limit (WLL) and grade classification appropriate for the respective chain type and load.
  • Only use with chains and accessories of the same grade (e.g. Grade 8).

2. Before Use

  • Visual inspection: Before each use, inspect the chain connecting link for damage such as cracks, deformation, corrosion or signs of material fatigue.
  • Thread and fastening: Ensure that the thread is clean and free from damage. The locking screw must be capable of being fully tightened.
  • Check compatibility: Verify that the connecting link is suitable for the chain size and the lifting accessories being used.

3. Use

  • Correct assembly: The connecting link must be fully and correctly tightened. The locking screw must not loosen during use.
  • Observe the loading direction: Chain connecting links must only be loaded in the intended direction and must not be subjected to side loading or cross-loading.
  • No overloading: The maximum Working Load Limit (WLL) must never be exceeded.
  • Operating conditions: Ensure that the connecting link is not damaged by external influences during use (e.g. impacts or abrasion).

4. Special Conditions

  • Environmental influences: Depending on the material specification, connecting links may be suitable for use in damp, chemically aggressive or temperature-critical environments. Select the material according to the application conditions (e.g. galvanised steel or stainless steel).
  • Temperature range: Observe the recommended operating temperature range of the material, as extreme heat or cold may affect its performance and strength.

5. Maintenance and Care

  • Clean the connecting link regularly, particularly the threaded section, to prevent wear and corrosion.
  • Replace damaged connecting links or locking screws immediately.
  • Lubricate moving parts (e.g. the locking screw) when necessary to ensure smooth operation.

6. Storage

  • Store connecting links in a clean and dry environment, protected from corrosion, moisture and mechanical damage.
  • Before storage, ensure that the connecting link is fully assembled and free from damage.
  • Avoid contact with aggressive chemicals that could attack the material.

7. Additional Information

  • Connecting links are not intended to be permanent or safety-critical connections. They should be inspected regularly for condition and safe operation.
  • Do not use connecting links for lifting or securing applications unless they have been specifically approved for such use.
  • Do not modify the connecting link in any way (e.g. cutting, drilling or welding).
  • If there is any uncertainty regarding suitability or special application requirements, consult the manufacturer or a qualified specialist.
