Showing Colors: The Meaning of Color Codes for Textile Lifting Equipment Like Round Slings and Lifting Slings

Textile lifting equipment is popular! Lifting slings and round slings are relatively lightweight even for high loads, flexible, and comfortable and easy to use for the rigger.

What makes them especially helpful is that the load capacity is visible at a glance thanks to color codes used for standardized round slings and lifting slings made of synthetic fibers (like polyester). This standardized color coding is defined in DIN EN 1492-1 (lifting slings) and DIN EN 1492-2 (round slings).

What Is the Color Code for Lifting Slings?

Here is an overview of the color coding according to DIN EN 1492-1 / DIN EN 1492-2 for polyester round slings and lifting slings up to 40 t:

  • Round sling / Lifting sling 1 t: Purple
  • Round sling / Lifting sling 2 t: Green
  • Round sling / Lifting sling 3 t: Yellow
  • Round sling / Lifting sling 4 t: Gray
  • Round sling / Lifting sling 5 t: Red
  • Round sling / Lifting sling 6 t: Brown
  • Round sling / Lifting sling 8 t: Blue
  • Round slings / Lifting sling from 10 t to 40 t: Orange

Note: Deviating colors, intermediate load capacities (e.g., 1.5 t), and even higher load capacities are only manufactured in accordance with DIN EN 1492 as they do not comply with the color code.

What Does the Color of the Round Sling Indicate?

The uniform color coding makes work easier and safer for users. Thanks to the distinctive color, it is quickly visible even from a distance what round slings and lifting slings can handle. At a glance, you can determine the load capacity of the round sling. This also helps prevent mix-ups during fast-paced work.

Deviating colors, intermediate load capacities (e.g., 1.5 t), and higher load capacities are only produced in accordance with DIN EN 1492 since they do not match the standard color code. For this reason, the label always includes the mandatory load capacity specification. Here, you will find the designation “WLL” (Working Load Limit).

The decisive factor for the color of textile lifting accessories is the load capacity in tons (t) in direct lifting. Keep in mind that the load limit varies depending on the lifting method!

About Dolezych Lifting Slings and Round Slings.

Here you will find an overview of our lifting slings and round slings.

Did You Know That Dolezych Also Offers Round Slings Made of UHMW-PE?

Our DoUltra essentially follows the same color code. However, since the DoUltra is only manufactured from 8 t and up, we had to get creative. The 8 t version has a blue identification sleeve, indicating its load capacity. The sling itself is orange-gray striped, with the orange color signifying that the slings have a load capacity of over 10 t. UHMW-PE round slings can be easily distinguished from PES round slings by their label. Round slings made of UHMW-PE high-performance fiber have a white label, while those made of PES have a blue one. These high-performance round slings are perfect for demanding applications where you need maximum load capacity, durability, and flexibility. The best part: Thanks to the high-performance fiber, you save weight, making handling easier than ever.
