How are round slings constructed and which round slings are available from Dolezych?
A round sling consists of two key components: the load-bearing core and the protective cover. The core is the load-bearing element made from endless loops of synthetic fibre yarns. The protective cover is generally made from a seamless woven polyester sleeve, although stitched abrasion-resistant sleeves with a side seam or circular braided sleeves (see DoUltra) may also be used.
How is a round sling constructed?
- Load-bearing element – Core
- Endless loops of high-quality fibre strands
- In addition to polyester (PES), high-modulus polyethylene (HMPE) and aramid are also used as materials
- Protective cover – Outer sleeve
- Standard version made from a seamless woven, impregnated polyester sleeve
- Other materials, such as HMPE or aramid, are becoming increasingly common.
- Alternative manufacturing processes to enhance product characteristics are also being used more frequently.
- Identification stripes – Tonne stripes
- Printed or woven into the sling
- One identification stripe per tonne for whole-tonne capacities
- Note: These stripes are not required by the standard and may therefore not always be found on round slings.
- Marking – Label
- Required by the relevant standard
- Includes, among other things:
- Working load limit for the “straight lift” configuration
- Round sling material, where applicable shown separately for the sleeve and core materials
- Nominal length in metres
- Manufacturer identification
- Traceability code
- Reference to DIN EN 1492-2
- Must be permanently attached to the round sling, with part of the label positioned within the stitched area / under the cover (ensuring traceability even if the visible section of the label is torn off)
- Dolezych also uses protective sleeves that provide additional protection for the label while displaying the working load limit externally (see DoUltra).
When are round slings manufactured in accordance with DIN EN 1492-2?
DIN EN 1492-2 defines the materials used for both the cover and the core. Our standard round slings are made from polyester (blue label). In addition, the maximum working load limit (straight lift configuration) is restricted to 40 tonnes.
- If other materials such as HMPE or aramid are used, the round sling is manufactured in line with the standard.
- If round slings with a working load limit greater than 40 tonnes (straight lift configuration) are supplied, they must also be manufactured in line with the standard.
- If round slings are supplied outside the standard colour coding (for example, round slings with a black cover) and outside the corresponding working load limit categories (for example, WLL = 0.5 t), they are also manufactured in line with the standard.
What types of round slings are available from Dolezych?
The standard nominal length of round slings is up to 15 metres. This applies to all round sling series, with the exception of DoGiga and DoHeatPro.
