What you should know about edge-guards

Edge-guards (also known as wear-protection) comes into play when you want to protect your textile slings from the marks of hard use. In addition to the economic advantage of a long service life for your slings, this is also important for the safety of people working with loads and cranes. Whether eye-slings or round-slings, the corner protector clings to the material and protects it from rough surfaces. You can sew it on or attach it in such a way that it remains movable. In some cases, you can also attach the abrasion-protection at a later date. For you, this means maximum flexibility with minimum effort.

Your abrasion-protection options for durable round-slings and lifting-slings

  • Abrasion-protection sleeves made of PVC: Robust and reliable protection for 2 to 4-ply lifting-slings and round-slings.
  • Abrasion-protection sleeving made of PU-Tex: The main difference to PVC sleeving is the surface quality of the sleeving material. PU-Tex is significantly coarser than PVC and therefore offers greater frictional resistance during positioning. It also does not become slippery when wet.

Be careful with sharp edges

What exactly is a sharp edge? An edge is sharp if the edge radius of the load (r) is smaller than the diameter (d) of the lifting strap (the thickness).

Attention: Abrasion-protection is powerless against sharp edges. There are special solutions for edge protection!

Edge-guard: your shield against sharp challenges

Sharp edges are the arch enemy of your lifting-equipment. They can cause dangerous fabric cuts that endanger your loads and the lives of the people working with the round-slings and lifting-slings. Dolezych edge-guard is like a protective shield that gets between the load and the textile sling. It is the cost-effective alternative to PU coatings. Our edge-guard solutions can also be slidably attached to the sling. Cuffs and brackets for edge-guard can also be combined with your lifting gear at a later date.

Special case: abrasion- and edge-guard during coil transport

There are special rules when it comes to coil transportation. When the coil is lifted, the hose adheres immovably to the edge of the load. The lifting-sling slides in the profile hose or in the Dyneema® cut protection hose and can stretch and position itself freely under the rising load. Due to the high surface pressure, it is advisable to utilize only 2/3 of the load capacity and to avoid any lateral movement of the sharp edge across the protective sleeve of the lifting strap. When turning a coil (180° movement), a protective sleeve may only be a maximum of half the length of the sling and when erecting (90° movement) a maximum of two thirds. This ensures that the lifting-sling can slide in the profile tube to adapt perfectly to the load.

Don't give wear a chance!

With this information, you are ideally equipped to increase the service life of your textile slings and thus ensure the safety of your lifting operations and save costs in the long term.
